Here is a RARE 1926 Lionel 812 Short Wheel Base Gondola. These were 1st production 800 series. They made an 812, 813, 814 & 817 with the trucks mounted 1/2” closer to the middle of the car. They bound up on the side frames, so next production the chassis holes were altered. Of the 4 styles made, the gondola is by far the hardest to find. In my 40 years, I have only handled 2. The 1st one I sold at auction in 2002 for $800. The second I bought for my collection in 2008, and traded it for a boxed 1700 set, which was my concentration at the time. This example is clean and shiny, brake-wheels are reattached nicely. It shows moderate play wear, VG.
