Scarce 1940s Child's Book

$30.00

Here is a Scarce 1940s Child's Book. As photoed, it is the Story of Little Black Sambo. Please forgive the subject, this is an historically significant child’s booklet. It is small format, full color 12 pages. The story isn’t derogatory in itself, and images are beautifully drawn. This character was in Sunday comics all over the US from the late 1920s through the early 1960s. He was in view masters, Whitman children’s books and formats like this which came in a treasury of child stories. This example is bright with some yellowing to pages, but is clean and a scarce survivor, EX.

History:
The story of Little Black Sambo was originally written by Helen Bannerman in 1898. She was an English author living in India at the time. Helen created this story to entertain her daughters during a long train ride. It became very popular and has been told to children all over the world, often enjoyed as a short story.
